Quick! Call Yarn-1-1
I had a knitting crisis today. You know how it goes: On my way to an appointment where I was going to be sitting for a few hours, I suddenly realized I HAD NO KNITTING WITH ME!!! I can't even described the emotions - although if you are reading this blog, I bet you absolutely can relate. I hate to admit it, but it really felt like sadness. Maybe even panic.
Luckily, not too far out of the way was a yarn shop, albeit the one I always swear I'll never enter again. But at this point, I would have bought yarn from Osama.
Knowing I was going to be late, I rushed in, pushing passed a clerk saying, "Can I help you.." I grabbed a skein of Filatura Portofino and a pair of size 7 Turbos, and shouted, "No, it's an emergency thing."
Then and there, I vowed never to be stranded (or should I say unstranded) again. At least not if I am in my car. That must be what glove compartments, back seats and trunks are for. Perhaps someone (who, me?) should invent the emergency knitting jump kit. What about a service like Triple A that you can call to bring needles and yarn to you wherever you are? Where do I sign up? All I know is I am putting together my roadside knitting trauma kit - and I won't leave home again without it.

Wow, that's quite a kit!! Cassie of Too Much Wool has been putting together emergency sock kits lately - I think you've both tapped into a an unserved need. :)

Coffee in hand, goodbye kiss from my hubby, teenagers off to school, 3rd grader getting ready for school, huge burst out loud laughs from reading your blog...priceless! Thank you! I definetly can relate. I leave the house daily looking like a high priced bag lady with a Vera Bradley bag filled with knitting books and a Vera bag filled with works in progress.

Ha! I love the yarn emergency picture. The kit kind of scares me. Just a bit. Remember - knitting is like the American Express Card - "Don't Leave Home Without It" - because you never know.

What a great picture! And that is some kit! But you need to have something like that! I can totally relate to the panic! I get antsy just sitting in the car while Mister fills the tank. I've learned to carry at least a book with me at all times.

I was just sitting here thinking "Oh, crap, I just finished a project and now I have NO KNITTING to take to this god-awful real estate class this afternoon and there is no way I can sit through that s..t without needles in my hands and...". Well, you know.

Oh, that's great! But just imagine how cool it would be if you could really call Yarn-1-1 and have the dispatcher send over supplies. "What do you need, ma'am?" "I desperately need some sock yarn! I prefer earth tones! And Addis!"

I like the kit! I had to take a car in to get new tires today, and packed up my knitting to go. I would have been stressed out if I had forgotten. I totally understand.

Oh yes, I can relate. Like a Boy Scout I always try to 'Be Prepared' but there are times when for some reason I'm faced with a boring chunk of time with no knitting at hand. Yarn-1-1 would be divine!

You're too funny. Good idea though b/c oftentimes we get bad weather here and have extra blankets and clothes just in case we are stranded I should consider such a kit.

I have a car-knitting-kit in my glove compardment in my car. And it's there all the time!!! Because I hate waiting, tend meetings etc, without knitting!!!

We've all been there. I should stash a sock/scarf project in the car. Living in the city, I use public transport most of the time, so I have to remember to grab my purse and my knitting bag. Once of these days I'll get smart and get a purse large enough to hold the knitting.

Too funny! I'm thinking that I may have to put dishcloth supplies in the trunk milk crate along with the jumper cables, first aid kit, & other roadside emergency essentials. :)
