The Season's Finales
I'm not embarrassed to tell you that I love TV. Always have. Since Lassie and Ed Sullivan on Sunday nights to The Avengers and Batman to St. Elsewhere and LA Law. So, I am sad this week to say good bye to a few old friends (West Wing & Will and Grace) who are leaving forever, and other new friends like Grey's Anatomy that will be gone for the summer. After a long day, there's nothing better than setting myself up in front of the TV with three or four projects - and becoming totally engrossed in my shows and my knitting. It's the perfect thing for someone like me who hates to be unproductive. My knitting gives purpose to the mindless act of TV viewing. Watching TV affords me the time to knit. So, is anybody else a little nervous about losing knitting time? Any suggestions about what would be a good substitute? What are you planning? Maybe some evenings sitting at the beach, knitting and watching the sunset? How about renting the first seasons of shows (like LOST) that you missed? What kind of plans are you knitting up?

Just last night I was saying "I can't believe it is time for season finales already" with a sadness in my voice....now I realize what I was saying "Now what am I going to watch while knitting?" I think I'll be going to the library a lot when the season is over and borrowing DVD's.

I'll be knitting while my daughter is at swim team practice each day. Plus we have a camping trip (in a cabin) to the mountains planned with nothing to do but hike, eat, and knit. :)

I love to listen to podcasts while I knit. And audio books.

OK, one word for you... Netflix. We rent TV series on Netflix. It's great! In fact we don't watch much of TV beyond House.

With my Tivo, I always have something to watch. Frequently, I'll have it pick up every episode of some older series in reruns for me. Something I'll enjoy revisiting.
Right now, I'm working through Crossing Jordan on A&E. Never took an interest in the series on first-run, but I'm enjoying it now in syndication.
For a comedy fix, I'm recording Bewitched off of TV Land. Haven't seen them in a while, and many of them are actually looking unfamiliar enough to me that it's like seeing a new program.
Properly trained, my Tivo also records a lot of shows on speculation based on my likes and dislikes, so long as it has space. It's usually pretty good at making a guess.
Bottom line - with Tivo, I never wind up idly flipping channels hoping to find something to watch. There's always something worth a look on my Now Playing list.

I have to confess that since I started watching tv shows on DVD, I really can't sit very still for regular broadcasts, so I'll be watching those! Season 6 of King of the Hill just came out, so I've been working my way through that

I like to listen to audiobooks while knitting- I get lots more 'reading' in, plus FOs, that way.

Reruns of all the shows that I missed when my Must See shows aired. Summer series like The 4400.

I switch to reading, while I am knittting. I have a lot of new books to catch up on, so that's my summer-knitting-excuse:))and reading blogs ofcourse!!!
